This
is a painting that I thought about doing for a long time. I always loved
the way Ray went numb and let his cigarette just dangle from his lip. I felt
that if I could capture the look of shock in Ray's eyes coupled with the
feeling of that cigarette hanging on for dear life, the painting would be
successful. Blob is the first of a
few paintings to come in a 4 by 4 format; the scale and composition can get
tricky when working within a square.
I do like the square format though; televisions were square back when I
grew up so it really makes more sense.
I also have a ton of 4 by 4 stretchers from my days in junior painting;
I can’t help but be reminded of my days on the second floor of Herron when I’m
deep into a painting in my studio.
